Facilitation Skills: How to Guide Meaningful Discussions

NOTE: This event is a repeat of Basic Facilitation Skills offered last spring. There will be two live sessions:

Wednesdays, October 5 & 26, 2022 | 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. | Two-workshop series.

Would you like to facilitate conversations in your library and community? Are you familiar with the term “facilitation” but not sure if you have the skill set? Then this super-participatory, practical training is for you. You’ll walk away with skills you can use immediately, and feel more confident and competent when facilitating meetings of any type.

Workshop 1: How to Facilitate Stellar Discussions Wednesday, October 5 2022
9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. PST

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Differentiate between the roles of Content Expert and Facilitator.
• Create outcomes for post-learning discussions.
• Describe a minimum of five specific facilitation skills and five question types, and explain how and when each would be used.
• Describe solutions to overcome typical online meeting challenges.

Workshop 2: Let’s Practice Facilitating!
Wednesday, October 26, 2022
9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. PST

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Construct additional meaningful questions using the Focused Conversation Method.
• Facilitate a ten-minute dialogue on a topic that may be new to them, using as many of the new skills as possible.
• Debrief the experience using a helpful three-step feedback model (also useful for everyday work demands).

Why else should you participate? This training will help qualify future facilitators for CALL learning event discussions.

NOTE: This workshop will have a high level of participant engagement and interaction. Participants will need a camera to fully participate in the workshop activities and will be expected to keep their camera on throughout the workshop.
