Developing the Adult Nonfiction Collection

Adult nonfiction collections pose unique challenges. In this event, collection development expert Stephanie Sendaula will show you best practices for developing, maintaining, and weeding the adult nonfiction collection, with an emphasis on staying up to date with trends in popular areas such as memoirs and cookbooks.
You’ll gain an understanding of which materials that have a limited shelf life, and library staff who specialize in collection development or reference will gain a better understanding of the importance of nonfiction, the variety of it, and how to best tailor their collection to meet their community’s needs.

Stephanie Sendaula is Programming and Outreach Specialist at LibraryLinkNJ. She was previously Associate Editor at Library Journal and has extensive experience in collection development as a public and academic librarian as well as a freelancer for NoveList. In addition to presenting on collection development and management, she also has solid experience presenting on issues relating to intellectual freedom and censorship in libraries.
